Hi,
So I just upgraded my video card to a Firepro v7800 (previously had Nvidia) and now I cannot play Rogue Spear in Windows 7. After many google forum searches I found that everyone with an ATI and Win7 is having this problem. Basically I double click on the game to launch, and it immediately crashes and says "RogueSpear.exe has stopped working" What gives? I've tried all the compatibility modes.
I've also tried the game on my old computer with WinXP and am ATI Radeon x1650. The game does not work either. I launch it and it crashes immediately saying something about the GPU. So I changed video cards to my older Geforce 5200 FX and it worked. So this confirms there is something wrong on ATI's side.
So how do I get this to work with my Firepro in Win7?
Does anyone know how to fix this? Some Rogue Spear forum people suspect it has something to do with DirectX support with ATI but this is unconfirmed.
Please help!
Thanks

Why are you even trying to play games with professional gpus? They are meant for rendering models and stuff. Their drivers aren't optimized for games so you may encounter issues. The line between Nvidia gaming gpus and quadro series is thinner than between AMD gaming gpus and firepro series.

zipsi, that doesn't answer the question.
And the problem rests in all ATI not just Firepro so you have totally missed the point.

Borrow a mainstream video card and try the game. Then you will know if the Firepro is the problem or the drivers as you say.
If you tried all the fixes you read and it still doesnt work then maybe the card is the problem.
Did it play with the nVidiot card?
Driver stopped responding crashes can be a number of things.
That game is 13 years old. Might not play nice with todays hardware.

According to a quick search using a THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GAME on Windows 7 will cause issues with AMD hardware. This is why you should have a cheapo Windows 98 + Windows XP secondary system to play legacy games on

Hmmmm,,,
Try a different card or go back to what you had when it played would be my guess.

I agree with everyone else those cards drivers are not optimized for games.

The solution is quite simple. Go back to Nvidia who are apparently still willing to support 13 year old games on modern hardware. Since you yourself pointed out that this is a problem across all ATI.

I'm not a troll, the point of my post was that you don't bring your kids to school using an excavator, an utility vehicle meant for professional purposes, you buy a family wagon for that.

I have an ATI and I want to play this game.
Telling me to change video cards, change games, or change years is not a solution. Trolls are derailing this thread.

Absolutely NOT, no trolls are derailing the thread at all, you're just being a massive d1ck about the answers you got. You asked a question and got the right answers, so either suck it up, or stop trying to make out you're being trolled.
Here, I work in the industry, so I'll let you know :
Your FireGL card is NOT a gaming card per se; it's a CAD card and doesn't perform like the regular mainstream gaming cards. If cards weren't different and had different capabilities, then we'd see ONE line of cards, not PROFESSIONAL CAD cards, HTPC cards and GAMING cards.
Rogue Spear is 13 years old, yes, THIRTEEN years old and as such, newer hardware may not support old games due to hardware changes, software changes etc etc.
That game had issues when VISTA came out and due to a DirectX bug, it WILL NOT run on ATI cards, END OF STORY.
Got it now, or are you going to accuse me of trolling you too ? If so, you're a bigger idiot than you make yourself out to be, as ANYBODY who has played that game and knows about the situation with ATI/AMD cards since VISTA appeared on the market will tell you THE EXACT SAME THING ( and you can go accuse them of trolling too if you like ).

fretboard,
1. The bug for vista was fixed by a private user who then shared it with the RS community... So can you make the same fix for Win7?
2. As I have already mentioned (and you failed to address) that the game works on Windows XP with an Nvidia, once again, but not with ATI.
Therefore, your post is not helpful to the topic which is "how do I get rogue spear to work with my ati card, or any ati card for that matter? Radeon or Firepro.
Anyone else want to not help?

Nope, I have no interest in programming for a 13yr old game to try to make it work on last generation VGA cards which may not have the hardware capabilities and/or software ( driver support etc ) on a modern operating system .. unless you wish to pay me for my time, and I do charge money for things like that - LOTS of money. You got the cash, my fees start at $300/hr for basic preliminary investigations, going up to double that and more for the fix ( if possible ).
Of course it's a helpful answer or are you playing the dumbass on purpose ?
As I mentioned ( and you failed to comprehend ), that game is THIRTEEN years old and with the advent of VISTA it stopped working with ATI cards because of an irreparable DirectX bug .. if it had been possible to fix, then it would have been fixed at least 5 years ago .. as it hasn't, what does that tell you about that game running under W7 and with an AMD/ATI card ? The answer is NOT rocket science, nor do you need a degree to work it out ..
IT WILL NOT WORK
IT WILL NOT WORK
IT WILL NOT WORK
IT WILL NOT WORK
.. Hell, even my Rhesus monkey understands this, why can't you ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ??

@OP:
Instead of arguing with forum users, who spend their free time trying to help you, be a bit constructive and creative. Install XP into VirtualBox, and play there. It works for WWP which has a similar problem.
