I read the literature on the help page and I'm just curious of one thing before I pull the trigger on my screen set up.

I have an Alienware M17X R4 with an AMD HD7970M card, which according to the AMD specs sheet supports up to 6 monitors in eyefinity.

My laptop has Mini DP out, VGA out, and HDMI Out.
The monitors I have/Will have are all VGA input.

Does the input of the monitors matter? Do require 3 monitors with DVI inputs? Or will VGA work as long as i have the correct adaptors?

I was reading here: http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-eyefinity-technology/how-to/Pages/faqs.aspx

What are the basic requirements for connecting multiple displays?

Connecting multiple monitors for AMD Eyefinity technology couldn’t be simpler. There are four easy rules to remember:

  1. The first two monitors can connect to the graphics card with any display output on your product: HDMI, VGA, DVI or DisplayPort.
  2. The third (or greater) display must be connected to the graphics card via DisplayPort.
  3. If your monitor does not have a DisplayPort connection, you will need an inexpensive active DisplayPort adapter for it. DVI to DP adapters can be had for less than $30 USD.2
  4. Every family of GPUs supports a different maximum number of displays.

Do I need DVI input monitors?
I have 2 adaptors, an in HDMI to VGA out(Active?), and a MiniDiplayPort to VGA out(ACTIVE).
then my laptop has vga out.

If I convert all my outputs to VGA, will this affect eyefinity? or does only the connectors to the GPU matter?

it looks like it has changed . vga  was not even used at first.

i think i might have to give the whole eyefinity a try again.  i was disapointed with it in the past.

i used two dvi and a dispayport to dvi for the last monitor and that worked  before.  some of the active display port to dvi  just would not work. there was a list from amd. i would use what was on the list.

good luck
