When I enable crossfirex my system flashes, plays a hardware disconnect sound, then goes on a black screen. The only fix is hard reseting which turns off crossfire x. The motherboard is up to date.

System Specs:

AMD FX-6100

Dual Radeon 7850

M5A97 Motherboard

I have windows 8

If you haven't already, give the NEW 13.8 Beta driver a try.

Your ASUS M5A97 Motherboard is based on the 970 chipset. In the Beta driver notes:

  • Resolved issues:
    • Resolved crash when enabling AMD CrossFireX™ on some AMD 970 platforms
    • Improved stability for AMD Radeon HD 7790
    • Resolved intermittent mouse cursor corruption when rapidly moving the cursor across window borders
