The reason behind the 2 different brands I currently own the Sapphire 7970 card and I'm looking to do a 5x1 eyefinity Setup and was recomended the Asus GPU.

I would recommend using the same make and model if at all possible, but those cards should work together.

In theory, different brands should work fine.

In reality, at least for me, that's only true up to the 13.1 driver.  All other drivers afterwards do not work properly with my mixed CF setup, consisting of Gigabyte and Sapphire 7970 cards.

So I would echo the advice to stick to the same exact model card.
