Basic mathematics.

TDP of a HD 7970 Ghz edition = 275-300w depending on model and overclock
TDP of the rest of your system = 225w to account for CPU overclocking, motherboard, drives, and fans

300+300+225=825w which is (aside from at least 100w overestimation) above what your system will pull under 100% load (which it pretty much never will be under real world conditions) and well below the 1000w your PSU is rated for.
