Hello all,

I just set up a crossfired Sapphire 7970 OC boost and Sapphire R9 280x OC boost. Set up went smooth and the cards scale as they should in xfire. Tests run Valley, Heaven and 3dmark 11. I also ran several of my games BF3 Sniper Elite V2 Nazi Army etc. All scale 100%.

Here is the issue if I let the rig sit for awhile and attempt to start lets say a game or firefox the PC will freeze. (the two times it happen was once after a hour no use and the other after I left my pc on over night). I then came to the conclusion that the second card (7970) might be having troubles awakening from ULPS.

Is this common? The last xfire setup I had was two Sapphire 6970s and this never happened. I know firefox activates the second card in my old 6970 xfire rig I had the cards OCed and you can hear the second cards fan kick in when you start the browser and a game or benchmark that uses xfire.

I ran regedit and changed EnableUlps to 0 and currently have firefox open to see if the issue continues and something else is causing the system to hang (which I seriously doubt). I am using the 14.4 drivers on Win7 Ultimate 64. Again is anyone else having this problem? Detailed specs are in my sig and my OC is 100% stable. This does not happen with one card in the system. Any input or help.

Maybe its a driver issue with the sorta hybrid xfire 7970 and r9 280x. I am using the 14.4 beta drivers. Just doesn't make any sense as the comp runs and scales perfectly, benches and games FPS has doubled. Could it be my motherboard?

The sabertooth is a ver 1.01 with the latest bios. And other thing The r9 280x is the newest addition I have had the 7970 for a year never had any issues. When I got the 280x I changed the pci-e slot locations and put the 7970 in slot 3. Recommended slot config for xfire with the sabertooth is 1 and 3 for full 2.0 @ 16x, so I know thats not the issue either.

I think disabling ULPS fixed the issue
