my spec:

windows 8.1 (previuos windows versions also affected by this glitch)

two 7750's (stock speeds, no overlocking, no overheating)

crossfire bridge not needed.

fx 4170 (stock speed, no overlocking, no overheating)

catalyst 14.3 (previous cat versions 13 12 11 . . .  are also affected by this glitch)

The problem:

Random line artifacts on dx9 games when turning off vsync

EDIT:

video of the glitch:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/38501018/Ns2%20Dx11.mp4?dl=1

(Natural selection 2 dx11, no glitch)

EDIT:

tested on vga hdmi and dvi, same results, also tested with different monitors, btw, dx 11 not affected, that means cables and monitors are not the cause of the problem.

What monitor are you using ?

What refresh rate are you using ?

How is your graphic card connected to your tv/ monitor ?

DVI-D, HDMI, VGA ?

Is your display cable of good quality ?

Does a different display have the same problem ?

Have you tried a different connection type and/ or cable ?

Test and post your feedback.

Seems to be a driver compatibility issue then.

Are you using latest game patches ?

Have you tried clean install the latest 14.4 whql or 14.6 beta1 drivers (64bit) ?

Is there a dx9 game without this issue ? Test please.

I still think it's a monitor refresh rate, though, since the problem appears only with v-sync off. Are you running the game on the same hz as your display monitor ?

Could you try your monitor with another pc ?

Test and post your feedback please. Thanks.

If you  actually read mine, you would see that i specifically ask you for the latest driver version, which you do not mention on your original post.

Did you answer me if you cleaned installed any of the drivers so that i know we are on the same page here ? No.

I am glad if i can help you in any way possible.

Please make sure we do not post any more unnecessary posts.

Wating for your feedback.

Ok, my bad.

What about my first question (or the others you neglected) ?

You can always try your gpus on another, different system with same drivers.

If the problem persists, try that:

http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=454&threadid=161256&enterthread=y

I apologize if i am not any help at all.

Somone who is experiencing the same will help you eventually.

EDIT:            does disabling crossfirex fixes the issue ?

tested planetside 2 with 2 monitors in clone mode, so its obvious that its not monitor related:

EDIT:

tested in cat 14.4

Ok. Thank you for your feedback.

It is probably a poor driver support for dx9 games, as countless threads on the internet point out.

Last suggestions:

Test with the 14.6 beta as well.

Test without afterburner or any monitoring/ overclock utility running in the background.

Could you please download and run a free benchmark called unigine Valley and run with v-sync off and dx9 ?

OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just tried the valley bench myself with 1080p, maxed, v-sync off, dx9.

Performance is horrendous with crossfirex enabled, no horizontal lines though.

DX11 works normal.

Hmm......

EDIT 1:      in window mode (crossfirex disabled) dx9, v-sync=off, valley runs as it should with one gpu. Still no flickering lines.

EDIT 2:       you were right. It seems to be a dx9-crossfirex related problem. Broken v-sync would not surprise me either. I had issues with v-sync in the past.

Allright. Tested heaven myself in dx9 - crossfirex and all is good . No glitch

I use a native 1080p monitor connected with a high quality dvi-d cable.

I noticed some things though:

1. Surface Format Optimization=off, switch it "on"

2. Wait for Vertical Refresh=Always off, change to "Off, unless application specifies"

3. Frame Pacing=on, change to "off"

Follow the above recommendations and test again.

It will probably change nothing, but test just to be sure it is not a ccc config. problem

Your temps seem quite good.

Thanks for the videos. They help a lot.

Yea, i carefully watched the videos, it's sure is frustrating.

Do you run the the second card in a x4 pcie slot, by the way ? I saw the maximum bus setting of the linked adapter to be x4 in ccc-hardware tab.

Can i ask you to please test each card alone (physically remove the other) to eliminate the possibility of a card malfunction ? Also change/ test different power cables in each card.

Can you give me the voltage values of the psu from a montoring program or BIOS ? We want to make sure your PSU is good.

yes, i ran stress test on each card individualy, one card at time (second card removed from pc), my mobo chipset second slot is 4x in crossfire mode, tis hw limitation, but as i know even on 2x mode impact in performance is minimal (2% or less) compared to 16x, but anyway, its not hardware problem, because dx 11 works flawlessly with or without vsync

EDIT:

the only thing that comes in my  mind is related to driver, not correctly writing to back buffer when useing single buffered mode (vsync off) double buffered and triple buffered modes are not affected (vsync on), strangely enouth, on dx 11 single bufered mode is working ok (vsync off)

EDIT:

my psu is cougar power 400w, but as spec says it can give 387 wats, and its more than enouth for my setup , since single 7750 draws 55w (110w for both vga) ant cpu is 4170 max tdp 125w (so safe margin 140w)so i get 250w total power needed.also, before i used hd 3870 (150w) and no problems what so ever.

Forgive my obsession with the hardware, i always like to test thoroughly myself just to be 100% sure.

I know, basic computer logic dictates that amd should really get some things sorted out lately. It is bad for bussiness.

I just tested "state of decay" game on dx9 and it gave me some really weird artifacting.

It really pissed me off.

But, is it the same glitch with crossfire disabled ?

Either way, not much you can do right now, except sending this form to amd support.

Unless anyone else can give you better advice.

Will post if i find anything else interesting.

Thanks.

By the way, my dual-card used to run at x16 at both gpus.

Now it runs at x16 - x4.

Unigine valley gave me 58,7 fps final result at first, now it gives me 53 fps final score.

The performance limitation for my tastes is severe.

Only a low-end or mid-end gpu will not suffer from this.
