My current 7950's have been flawless since last year,my 2-HIS 7950's were also flawless,so not sure what is causing your issues.I would look at getting them on the same BIOS though(worth a shot),Thats one thing with mine I noticed,That they were on the same bioses and were sequential serial #'s.
And your PSU should be fine,but if you have access to another one,be worth trying that also,just to rule it out.

And No! I have never considered going to Nvidia.I did pick up a GTX560Ti a year or so ago just cause it was on sale cheap(needed a card for my backup rig) and thought ,why not try one,It didn't even make it 2 hours before it fried,no thanks.
But I do love how people think going to Nvidia think all there problems Miraculously go away.
