If you are running R9 290 or R9 290x in Crossfire, and you get random game crashing ONLY when in Crossfire mode, then check you have a large enough page file. I had turned mine off because I fell victim to the internet science that SSD drives do not need one. I learned the hard way that for Crossfire of these cards, it does. I recommend at least 8192mb. I tested with lower and had no success.

Symptoms were :

  • BF4 Crash when using ULTRA settings
  • Skyrim had black textures and single digit frames per second
  • Random crashing in games such as Bioshock Infinite, Far Cry 3
  • Low performance in the Witcher 2

Please note that both cards were stressed individually and heavily where upon I found no faults. All errors were happening during Crossfire use.

Ensure that you do this first and also read other threads to determine if you have a faulty card on it's own.
