i know there are newer and better cards out there but im curious to know upgrade wise and game wise which option would be better? 2 4890's in CF, a single 4870X2, or 2 4870X2 in quad fire heres my specs

ASUS M2R32-MVP mobo phenom 2 X4 quad core 920 at stock 2,8Ghz 4 gigs ddr2 ram xp
pro 64 bit and 1TB hard drive ATI AMD XFX HD4890 1 gig GPU 1000 watt psu with 72
AMPS spreed across 2 12 volt rails 36 amps per rail. 1920x1080 26 inch led tv widescreen

so even tho these cards are old and outdated which would still be the better option if i were to upgrade if these were my only options

On the whole, I'd go with a pair of 4890's.  You'll miss a bit of extra performance in some games, but you'll run into a CPU bottleneck before you ever really take advantage of a pair of 4870x2 cards at that resolution.

Any games which don't do CF properly will be faster with a single 4890 versus a single 4870.

And as someone who ran with a pair of 4870x2 cards for some time, I can say you won't miss the power consumption, heat, and noise.

Why are you making another thread? You were told that with a PCIe 1.1 motherboard and Windows XP you should replace those before even thinking about graphics cards. And even then the HD 4000 series is a legacy product.

None of those options are any good, your running ancient old hardware.I had a system similiar to that back maybe 7-8 years ago.

Old and outdated and in Legacy status with AMD....which means don't be asking for driver updates.

And they won't work with Windows 8, which you will need to buy.
