I bought a new Desktop pc last year.  It has an A8-5500 APU.  It also included an HD 7470 1gb discrete/dedicated video card.

I recently started playing some games again and noticed that the hd 7470 card isn't that great.

I did some research and some benchmarks.  It looks like my hd 7470 is weaker than the hd 7560d integrated video that is in the A8-5500 apu.

I currently have my hd 7470 yanked out of my pc and laying on my desk.  I am using the integrated one now and allocated 1gb of ram to it.

My question is:  Does anyone know why they would include the hd 7470 video card if the integrated one is better?  Or am I missing something?

This is an ASUS Desktop PC.

That card doesn't make any sense.  It would support Dual graphics and is not a good replacement for the integrated graphics.

If you want more bang in graphics look at a 7850 which is a good dollar strong graphics upgrade. Of course the draw back is 500W power supply and not knowing your specs it is hard to say if the desktop could support it.

I upgraded my CPU, PSU and Discrete graphics card from the OEM setup.

Its an Asus cm1745 desktop.  A8-5500 apu with hd 7470 discrete.  8gb of ram.  http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Essentio+Desktop+-+8GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/6699853.p?skuId=6699853&strId=221&strClr=true&id=1218786217198

They sell them on clearance now.  I payed full price around $500 for it last year.

I will probably end up upgrading the PSU and buying a good video card one day.  So far the integrated video works pretty good though for my Steam games.

I played my BioShock, TombRaider and Lockout through steam with both my intergrated 7660D. After my card and new PSU came in I played them again but at the highest settings.

Big difference for some of the older games to.

My HP Pavilion P7-1235 was on sale during the back to school no tax days.

Great deal and does what I wanted.

You will enjoy the upgrade TigerDirect is my preferred place to spend my extra cash.
