I'm trying to confirm if the upcoming "Kaveri" APU will be compatible with the FM2 socket. I heard at the computex conference that AMD planned on sticking with the FM2 socket but i didn't know if they planned on going with FM3 or FM2+ instead for "Kaveri". I would really appreciate if anyone could get back to me with an answer. I love the APU and have built many "Llano" and "Trinity" based systems and have been very pleased with the amount of performance, I'm looking to build a "Richland" based system but would like to know the plans for later on this year since i've heard about "Kaveri". Thank you for your time and i hope to hear back from AMD soon.

Justin,

A newer FM2+ which will still allow Trinity and Richland APU on it. Will have two extra pins for the Kaveri.

I can't wait for more specifications as far as power.

So will Kaveri work on existing FM2 socket motherboards? I've heard that maybe they will with less features, and i've heard the newer socket deal. I just wish AMD would come out and put it in fine print so i would know to wait for Kaveri or get richland now. I have a FM2 board and planned on getting a richland APU but wouldn't mind the wait if Kaveri is as good as they put it out there to be.

Thank You

No, the Kaveri will have two extra pins that the current FM2 motherboard doesn't have. The new FM2+ will be backward compatible with Trinity and Richland chips.

That is all I got out of the handouts that I have so far.
