Hi All,

I'm currently a very satisfied A6-3500 owner that I use in an HTPC system.

I was wondering to enhance my HTPC performance to play some games (of course without extreme settings).

So the question is: do you suggest me to buy a Radeon HD 6670 to use in dual graphic with the current A6-3500 OR it will be better to upgrade the HTPC to a new APU with FM2/FM2+ socket (without any additional graphic card)?

Just to know if the performances will be the same, worst or better...any suggestion is more than welcome!

Thanks! :-)

I suggest that you go for a discreet graphics card to pair in dual graphics mode.  Comparatively,  graphics perfromance does not increase dramatically as much by going up on APU models.  The cost of an HD 6670 is 20% cheaper than a new APU.

I find this table from PassMark very useful when comparing graphics performance

Your integrated GPU is HD 6530.  The AMD officially published dual graphics pair is HD 6570.

I've seen several customer feedback in the internet saying that HD 6670 works.  Please research further.  If HD 6670 works in dual graphics mode,  then graphics performance will likely be sufficient to play most of the current games at medium settings and 720 resolution

I have an A8-5600K for which the officially supported pair is also HD 6570 only.  However,  I have enabled Crossfire with an HD 7750 with very good results

First of all thanks a lot for your valuable answer!

The information on the amd site seem not to be so much correct. In fact, on the box of my a6-3500 APU, the list of the compatible GPUs for dual graphic are 6670, 6570 and 6450. Therefore other cards wrt 6570 are possible.

What is quite interesting is your example: using a 7750. Did you just made a try or you saw somewhere such possiblity? It would be nice to use a more powerfull graphic card instead the 6670...but I dont' want to buy something that may not work...Suggestions?

My recent HD 7750 install was both an experiment and some calculated risk.  The additional cost from HD 6670 is just USD 25.  If Crossfire was not to work,  HD 7750 alone will have better graphics performance than HD 6670 in dual graphics with HD 7560 which is the iGPU of A8-5600K.

The Crossfire worked and I have posted the results in this forum -  http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=475&threadid=168178&enterthread=y

I suggest that you go for HD 6670 for the following reasons -

My estimate is the CPU performance of A6-3500K will become a bottle neck in case of dual graphics with HD 7750

Just a hunch,  HD 7750 probably worked with A8-5600K as they are both HD 7000 series.   Whereas,  the IGPU for A6-5300K is at HD 6000 series

Thanks a lot for your kind suggestions!

I think that I will go for a 6670 in dual graphic then...it is quite clear that in some cases the APU may become a bottle neck...

I will keep you updated about my progress in my system upgrade! ;-)

Cheers!
