Just got new PC recently. I am very proud owner of an AMD APU A10 "Kaveri" 7850k processor.

Maybe I rushed a little buying it but I felt was the best option at the moment as I dont plan to game at ultra resolutions and utra graphic detail . I'm quite impressed with the performance of Battlefield 4 though with latest Mantle drivers . I am able to use Mantle API with this configuration and game is very playable at 1920 x 1200 almost with graphic detail at high which I think is very good.

I detail my rig specifications  here :

Graphics Card

Sapphire R7 250 2GB DDR3

No overclocking done yet. Crossfire very good with R7 of Kaveri processor. I tried some benchmark and games in Crossfire (BF4, Hitman, Tomb Raider.. )  very stable and working very good specially BattleField 4 with new Mantle driver.I noticed a quite impressive boost in performance like if I had installed an R9 card or something lol. From being able to play at low detail to be able to apply high quality settings witout almost noticing frame drops.

AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History

14.1 beta (mantle)

Operating System

Windows 8.1 64 bit

Issue Details

For the moment system very stable. I flashed to latest rom version of the Gigabyte motherboard and let me even set memory up to 2400 mhz.

Motherboard or System Make & Model

Gigabyte F2A88X- D3H Revision 3.0

Power Supply

Cooler Master 600w. RS-600-ACAA-B1. 80 Plus Bronze

Display Device(s) and Connection(s) Used

DELL U2412M (1920 x 1200)

CPU Details

AMD APU A10 7850K Black Edition

Motherboard BIOS Version

F5a

System Memory Type & Amount

8 Gb. Gskill Trident X F3-2400C10D-8GTX. 2 modules of 4096 Mb (latency in the box say CL10-12-12-31 . 1.65v)

Additional Hardware

Lbots DareU mechanical keyboard (Cherry Mx Red)

Zalman Z5 plus  case

Asus Xonar DSX 7.1 sound card pci express

Crucial M500 . 240 Gb SSD

Noctua NH-U12S fan

My question is which steps you recommend for start trying to overclock system a little. Also if graphic card choice R7 250 2Gb RAM DDR3   is a good one for A10 7850k processor or maybe should have been better choice to crossifre with a much more powerful  7970 graphic card for example?

Can I combine previous HD7xxx models or should be better a top range R7 or R9 graphic card ?

Don't know if with a HD7xxx graphic card hUMA and GCN technology would take advantage or those technologies or not...

Would you recommend to use AMD Overdrive program  ? Or better to star overclock using BIOS. As you can see in the screenshot of Hwinfo I slightly overclocked with AMD Overdrive cpu ratio up to  x 39 that's why it says clock speed is around 4.0 Ghz but for the moment I dont dare to touch more things without knowing or understanding what I am doing...

If someone is interested in similar rig as mine and want bechmark result please let me know which benchmark to use and I post here the results.

Thanks a lot in advance .

I also post here some pics of my rig.

Hi, I read that the box of the AMD A10 7850k should say which GPUs can be run in Dual Graphics with it.

Could you tell me which ones are compatible according to it please?

In the box I only can read that APU A10 have an integrated R7 graphic card but  it doesn't say in the box which GPU can be run with.

That's why I doubt about it .

I buyed second hand a cheap R7 250 but I think Kaveri is capable to crossfire with much powerful R7 or R9 and maybe previous HD7xxx too...

This are more pics of the box :

Well, I know an A8 7600 can Dual Graphics with a R7 250 cuz they did it here.

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/AMD-A8-7600...

So I assume the more powerful A10 7850k can be set up in Dual Graphics with a R7 260x.

But I am also pretty sure the r7 260x is as high as it can go for Dual Graphics which is fine by me anyway especially now that the frame pacing issue has been fixed in the recent patch update.

Logically, it makes sense that the R7 260x is as high as it can go but since I am buying pretty much the same build as you, I need to check b4 i get it.

Oh btw, I have seen the A10 7450k be overclocked to 4.7 ghz in this article, although I personally wouldn't recommend going that high to anyone.

Btw, this is the 2nd part of the article where they do a full overclock on the A10 7850k as opposed to just a cpu overclock.

http://www.hardcoreware.net/amd-kaveri-a10-7850k-apu-overclocked/

According to it, a full overclock of both CPU and GPU to 4.7 ghz was stable in a week of testing and the overclock scaled well so most people who buy it as a stand alone processor should be interested in it.

This probably includes both you and I>

They overclocked the cpu to 4.7ghz from 4 ghz, the gpu from 720 to 1020 mhz and the ram from 2133mhz to 2400 mhz on the A10 7850 for a week of testing.

They say it was stable and the results were good so I am interested in doing this too when I Dual graphics with a R7 260x.

Hey, when you run the demo of 3D Mark firestrike with stock settings what results do you get?

I have the A10-7850k on an Asus A88XM-A Mobo with 8gb Kingston Hyper X 2400 "the beast" Ram. My results are well under any articles that have total benchmark scores of 1400.

Plus any OC'ing is very modest at best.

Managed to do benchmark of 3Dmark Firestrike. Here the result :

APU A10 7850k at stock values (3,7 Ghz) and Gskill 8 Gb DDR3 dual kit memory at 2400 mhz

I did the benchmark again now activating dual graphics (Kaveri APU A10 7850 k + Sapphire R7 250 2Gb ram DDR3) and also overclocking cpu up to 4.2 Ghz with AMD Overdrive . Memory also clocked at 2400 mhz. Here is the result.

When overclocking the processor with AMD Overdrive to more than 3.7 Ghz though I notice image and audio stuttering in games like if something wrong is happening. Any idea of why this happens ?

I think something is a bit screwy with my set-up then. I am getting scores in the 900's. Not sure about this Asus board. Capatibility issues I think.

Trident X for $89 at newegg.ca....I was just adding to cart.

I Think it is the Asus A88XM-A motherboard that is underperforming.

Current score for firestrike is 1036.

i can confirm that r7 260x WILL NOT dual graphics with a10-7850k.  That said, your scores with your r7 250 are almost as high as my 260x anyway.

Currently, the r7 250 is the fastest GPU that has been confirmed to dual graphics with Kaveri.  The 250x and 260 (non-x) have yet to be tested.

I would assume 250x would work, 260 would not.

here's the 3dmark for my 260x running solo:

As you can see its neglibly better than your r7 250 crossfire setup.  I probably have slightly less frame variance however.  From your benchmark I would think the a10-7850k + r7 250 makes a reasonably powerful gaming setup.

You may want to delete and reload your drivers for the 260x. These are my scores with the ASUS Radeon R7 260X OC 1188MHZ 2GB 7.0GHZ GDDR5. Sorry about the copy and paste...don't know the screen shot yet!

So as you can see dual graphics with the R7 250 isn't even close to the single R7 260x.

What the heck?  I'll try reloading them tonight.  I even have the thing overclocked to the max in AMD Overdrive (aside from core only being at +4.5%).  Oddly enough, when I have the 260x installed I can't overclock my APU at all.  Even pushing the FSB from 100 -> 101 will cause the machine not to POST.

I had the APU multiplier set at 45 times overclocked for my last results.

Below is set at stock speeds for the APU and the Graphics card is at stock speeds of 1185.1750.

I had no issues overclocking with the apu multiplier at 45 and set the vcore to 1.50v and everything on extreme (Asus board). I am using a water cooler though and maintaining some low temps. Didn't like the Overdrive, seems buggy.
