Success (?) .. Well maybe, time will tell.

I installed the 14.4 drivers and the drivers STICK this time, even after MULTIPLE reboots and shutdowns.

When I say STICK I mean:

  • No more windows popping up telling me: "No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware."
  • No more drivers crashing and recovering (I encountered that problem a few times when running MSI Afterburner etc. whenever it switches/detects dual graphics.

How did I do it? Well, this is going to be an odd one, and there is prob. more luck than anything else involved.

  1. Reboot into Safe mode
  2. Run Display Driver Uninstaller
  3. Select AMD and also tick "Remove folders" - Let it Clean and Reboot
  4. Install the 14.4 CHIPSET/USB/ACHI driver (Google this, they come in one single file that is SEPERATE from the current 14.4 GPU drivers)
  5. Reboot
  6. Install 14.4 GPU drivers and let it reboot
  7. Pray that it does not give you the dreaded message about no AMD drivers installed (Open CCC, this seem to speed up the time it takes to give you the notification).
  8. If it does give you the message, install 14.4 GPU drivers again, on top of old installation and reboot.
  9. Keep installing 14.4 GPU drivers until you do not get the message anymore - It took me 4-5 installations (And reboots) and now it sticks - I even played BF4 and ARMA3 without any driver problems and 3DMark FINALLY gives me a VALID score and matches the current drivers with 14.4.

Hope this gets fixed next release/BETA - I *HATE* (With a passion) to brute-force install drivers like this - I will conduct some testing FPS wise etc. and see if this is even worth it - 13.25 works perfectly so might just go back and return when AMD solved the problem.

Interesting, it seems like they've sorta fixed it

Latest Catalyst Driver Support Package -- (1)

Chipset/AHCI/USB drivers -- (2)

I'll give it a whirl and report back

------------

Results:

Success *with lots of crossed fingers and prayers it will stick*

Steps:

1. Download all the required files, I got the AHCI/USB/CHIPSET drivers from link (2) and also RAID drivers from link (2) and got the new catalyst suite from link (1)

2. Reboot into safe mode and uninstall/blitz drivers using the AMD Cleanup Utility (now it works for me, since my computer can still boot without those drivers, YMMV be warned)

3. Reboot into normal mode, installed AHCI/USB/CHIPSET drivers, reboot

4. Installed RAID drivers, reboot

5. Installed CCC, reboot

6. Dual graphics were already enabled on mine, enabled the "Enable dual graphics for applications that do not have associated application profile", CCC hung awhile and then the dreaded "No AMD drivers..." error message popped up

7. Rebooted, and it seems to be working with the previous step checkbox checked and everything else including overdrive present and accounted for

Same, I did not even bother to update with it as I just given up and went with 13.25 until AMD sort out their stuff - This is clearly a problem bigger than "A single user" - What bugs me is that I seen a few 7850K+R7 250 reviews running the 14.4 without problems.

Just to clarify - Which OS are you guys/gals running, could be a common nominator there that is the root of the problem.

Running a fully updated Windows 8.1 myself.

I'm running fully updated Windows 8.1 too, and really? Most reviews I've seen were either running beta 14.4 drivers or the older beta 13.2 drivers. Haven't really come across any new reveiws running the 14.4 drivers in dual graphics mode

I think the problem is only with people with windows 8/8.1? Anyone with windows 7 having this?

There have been issues reported in the past. The issues seemed to be on machines that had upgraded their Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. All manufacturers have a process you are supposed to follow...which weren't followed by everybody. It was reported that a clean install of Windows 8.1, with all the updates from Microsoft, fixed the issues.

Hi guys,

I have successfully installed the Catalyst 14.4 drivers. Uninstalled the 13.301 APU/CCC driver via control panel.

Installed the new driver and then the chipset driver separately. Finally the IOMMU driver and graphics drivers in harmony. VM and gaming is on.

Pain in the ass, but it works. The download page need something to work out with the chipset download selection. Confused a few times on what to choose.

Except that I started with Windows 8.1, it was a new system build with a new fresh copy of Windows 8.1 which was then fully updated.

I noticed that the chipset drivers don't actually contain the IOMMU drivers. Or at least the AMDKIO ones which I assume are the HSA Memory Management stuff. Unless I got the wrong chipset drivers.

The separate driver package has the NULL driver for AMD IOMMU Devices. This is the memory mapped I/O used for AMD-VT, Virtual Machine applications. In the Kaveri APU driver package (13.301.xxx), it is written as AMDKIO.

While HSA Driver is a different kind of driver to be used by Kaveri's HSA architecture (for HSA enabled apps in the future). HSA driver is not available with this separate driver package though.

My system is a fresh Windows 8.1 (with 8.1 Update) - currently with all updates installed. I do not have any previous Windows install. Note, only with the initial Catalyst 14.4 package, this issue happened.

I've just installed it, only time will tell if it works I guess. FYI, I just installed it on top of the old 13.25 drivers. It spazed out the first time, but a reboot and retry worked-ish

FYI, 14.6 Beta seems stable with my setup. I haven't got the dreaded "No AMD drivers" error so far and the computer has been restarted a couple of times now. I did a straight upgrade from 13.25 to 14.6 Beta

Just built an a10-7850k on an MSI A88X-G45. Started with win8 x64 tried to install the 14.6 and crash, tried drivers on MSI disk 13.12ish and.. crash, updated to 8.1 last night and tried 14.6beta and.. crash. Maybe I'll try those 13.25 you guys are talking about. This is getting annoying.
