I recently switched over to Maya for modeling DCC. I am a very happy AMD V7900 owner. The card works well, it is very stable and makes millions of polygons objects on viewports like it is nothing.

I started to edit UV mapping and it looks like I am having major issue with AMD V7900 whereas while in my UV editor:

If I marquee select no more than  1 to 3 UV points then it lags for almost 25 seconds. Marquee selection of  more UV points and the delay is exponential and up to quick crash. it is like a "nope I will not even attempt to look and select for those UV points within the marquee rectangle you just drew on the UV editor, there are just too many".

Should I also mention my model is not more than 8 000 polygons and it is no more than let say 150 UV points "at most" when I marquee select that leads to a crash

Hardware and drivers:

Mainboard: Supermicro X9SRA SMBIOS 2.7.1

Proc: Intel Xeon E-1620

Memory: 4*16 PC1600 Registered ECC Samsung MEM-DR316L-SL01-ER16 (tested memory by supermicro)

1 SSD 128 gigs samsung

1 mechanical Seagate 500 gigs

ATI V7900 Driver:

Driver Packaging Version
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000
Direct3D Version
OpenGL Version
Catalyst Control Center Version 2011.0520.1542.26324

Note: you will notice AMD V7900 driver is is actually certified by Autodesk which can also be found as certified on in the download support driver section

Windows 7 with all updates installed.

Norton 360 V6 fully updated and all maya icons are set to "ALLOW"

This is what happened at hardware and driver level since the very beginning!

1) I installed windows 7 on my SSD

2) I updated windows 7 which I want to assume (if I can rmeember correctly) also installed Windows Servers 2008.

3)I installed AMD Driver from the CD/DVD. I cannot remember the driver but I know it was a much lower version.

4)I installed everything else, including maya 2012

5) I start working on UV editor, too many UV point selected maya crashed.

6)I downloaded AMD 7900 driver: which at that time was certified by Autodesk.

7) I uninstalled the older driver and I installed

Note: At that point for sure I noticed something really strange during the installation. AMD driver failed to install Windows server 2008 saying that a newer version was present on my hard drive

8) I tried maya 2012 and it would keep crashing in UV editor

9)I downloaded Maya 2012 Service Pack 2 (Latest version). I made the mistake of installing maya 2012 SP2 on my mechanical drive but it seems to work fine. When I open maya, I actually use Maya 2012 SP2. Although Maya 2012 (the original version seems to be present on my SSD).

10) UV selection in maya 2012 Sp2 still crashes

11) I downloaded AMD V7900

12) I uninstalled I also uninstalled Windows server 2008. I ran Norton 360 V6 to clean the registry. Rebooted my machine

13)I installed The whole installation happened smoothly (including windows server 2008)

14)Maya 2012 Sp2 still crashes at UV point selection within the UV editor

Windows Report maya crash is always the same:

I was trying to research and open somehow Windows Server 2008 so I typoes windows server in my search box and a XML file poped called systeminformation.

I opened it and it opened in IE 9.0. I copy/past the whole information but not my network information, it is irrelevant and I don't want to share my IP if possible...

Maybe, just maybe these information will be useful in identifying how, why BEX 64 crash when I select UV points in my UV editor in maya 2012 SP2

I understand this application may not be used by many as well as this error seems tough to reproduce and/or does not happen often so not many if not no one can help.

I submitted a ticket straight to AMD.

I hope to get lucky, I have been all over the place with solutions that doe not work so far.
