I recall having this same issue with my Radeon HD5770. For that one I recall tweaking a setting in Catalyst that enabled eDrawings to allow that option.
With FirePro and Catalyst Pro, I'd assume that was default behaviour. Any ideas?
I may have answered my own question; there's a key in the registry that can be toggled (set to 0) to turn off software rendering in eDrawings:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\eDrawings\e2014\General \Software OpenGL
