After installing AMD Catalyst Driver for Radeon Version 13.4 under Ubuntu 12.04 a series of flashing black dashed lines appear across the top of the display on a cold boot.  Logging out and logging back in makes the lines disappear.

See: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115746&p=12510852#post12510852 for another user's problem statement (with a screen image).

Changing to the current beta driver, or to the earlier stable release, has no effect on this issue.  In consequence, I am unable to remedy the situation.  Any assistance will be gratefully accepted.

Processor i7-2600

Graphics card  HD 6450

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit

Driver 13.4

Power Supply Dell XPS-8300 OEM

RAM 12 GB

Computer came with graphics card but Linux dual-boot added after purchase

Monitor resolution  1680 x 1050

The monitor was originally connect with a VGA cable.  Switching to a DVI cable seems to have resolved the dashed black lines issue.  The lines are no longer displayed after a cold boot.

Regretably, I appear to have spoken too soon.  After a night's rest, the video driver gremlins have climbed up the DVI cable, and the black dashed lines are once again in evidence.
