Has anyone been able to get HDMI audio to work with any recent fglrx drivers on an A4-5300 Trinity processor?
A couple of months ago I built a new MythTV box with:
AMD A4-5300 APU
MSI FM2-A55M-E33 motherboard
4 GB G.Skill NS RAM
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 dual tuner card
The video came up just fine but I could not get audio through the HDMI port. All indications were that the system was configured to output audio on HDMI but no sound came out.
I have tried several recent/official versions of the fglrx drivers, both from the Ubuntu repositories and direct from the AMD support site, up to and including the beta that was available the middle of October 2013 (I think it was v13.11Beta V5) all with the same result.
I eventually found someone else with the same APU/MB combination with the exact same problem (http://askubuntu.com/questions/219990/no-sound-over-hdmi-12-10-amd-a4-5300-apu-msi-fm-a55m-e33) and used his solution of using legacy drivers which worked but doesn't seem like it should be necessary as the A4-5300 is a relatively new processor and is not listed as requiring the legacy drivers.
Unfortunately even though they work, the legacy drivers also have problems. The first is that if I turn off the TV or even switch temporarily to a different TV input then the audio is lost and I need to reboot Linux to get it back. There is also the annoying "AMD Unsupported Hardware" logo in the corner of the screen. And finally, at one point I tried to update the system to Ubuntu 12.10 and even the legacy drivers would not output sound anymore so I don't dare update anything on the system for fear that it will break everything.
