Linux distro: Fedora 19
Linux kernel: 3.11.7-200.fc19.i686.PAE
Desktop: XFCE 4.10
CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-1650 0 @ 3.20GHz
GPU:FirePro W5000

1. I downloaded the latest fglrx drivers for my FireProW5000:

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/firepro/13.152.4-linux-130928a-163383c-retail.zip

2. The kernel driver build failed, but I was able to find a patch online to resolve the issue.

Git repository for fglrx-13.152 driver patch:

https://github.com/kolasa/fglrx-13.152

3. I applied the patch and then was able to build the driver successfully.

4. I left the system running overnight and found that X server crashed.  The system would continue to crash until I rebooted it.

5. Here is the relevant portion of the kernel log.

It's a miracle that you managed to install the driver on Fedora 19 at all. There's something in its kernel that hates Catalyst. Rumor has it F20 will fixt this, but who know.

If're gaming, your best bet is switching to one of the *buntus. If not, just use the open source drivers. They give plenty of performance even for most linux games.

*buntus aint the best with AMD hardware to be frank, Same problem on there kernel too IIRC, Mint I hear is good though.

But if you prefere RPM based distros I'd give Mageia 3 a go.

Mint is a reskinned ubuntu using the same repository and kernel. Also it works on my AMD hardware while Fedora (past F17) does not.

Response and Service Request History:

That documentation is outdated. Linux Kernel 3.12 will be supported in our next driver release.
