I have this laptop, with hybrid graphics: 5650 and 4250, with no BIOS switching option.

I tried almost everything... and I'm tired, really tired and no time to go on trying things.

I never could use 5650 discrete card, NEVER. When trying, only black boot screen (or some boot text, too). Only once, I could boot on that card, using vgaswitcheroo... but it was slower than 4250 with proprietary drivers (I need 3D acceleration).

The driver that works OK with the 4250 (and I'm using) is Catalyst 12.4, on Ubuntu 12.04. Older drivers had artifacts, newer's don't support 4250... but neither support the 5650.

Does anybody know something about this laptop?

I bougth this laptop 3 years ago and spent a lot of money because of the discrete card... that I could never take advantage of it.

Well, next time read the system requirements before spending a huge amount of money on a laptop. If it's windows-only, why buy it for linux?

How many laptops say "Ready for Linux"? Maybe Stallman knows that answer.

I didn't know about hybrid graphics. Before buying this laptop, I bought an Acer with hybrid Nvidia - Intel. When arrived home, I realized that Optimus didn't work on Linux and there was no intentions to do it. So, I changed for a one with AMD, because I read that it was a little more friendly with Linux. And then, I started hoping...

I live in Argentina. Our money is devalued, every electronic device is 5-6 times more expensive. And only a few models arrive from outside. I didn't have so much choices.

I want to use Linux, I use Linux. I use all open source software, I'm fighting for my rights! But this computer doesn't let me...
