With the current 14.x drivers (14.4 and 14.6 beta), my desktop environment does not display after booting. All I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top-left corner of the screen. The 13.35 drivers work ok (though there are weird little glitches like alt-tabbing menus in gnome-shell not displayed correctly, and blank screens on Witcher 2 when starting the game a second time without restarting and graphical glitches that make Metro Last Light unplayable).

The price of using cutting-edge hardware on a barely supported platform... Use the issue reporting form, it might get fixed in a later version.

Thanks, didn't know about the issue reporting form.

On the other hand, it seems AMD really needs to change their driver development process. I don't know much about driver development, but something seems off when they release patches that address very specific issues with specific applications. If their OpenGL/OpenCL implementations are correct, and applications are using the API properly, then I wouldn't think there would be so many problems. The drivers either work correctly for all applications, or they are not correct. They need to start doing unit testing or something, IMO.

Not to diss the developers or anything. I'm sure they're very capable, and the problem probably lies with upper management not providing enough resources/manpower to do their jobs properly.

I'm thinking about selling my card and getting a GTX 780 or something. Which is kind of sad, since AMD provides more support to the free driver developers than nvidia.
