Hi all, just thought I would give here a go. I have an old Asus M2N-E m/b with a AMD Athlon 64x2 4200+ CPU, 5 Gb Ram,Powercolor X1950 Pro GPU, Win8 running in 64bit. I would like to keep the old bugger going for a bit longer and would like to update the GPU to a HD 7850. Would this work on my system r is it an overkill and go for a lower end graphics card?

I am building up a new pc Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe, 3770k, 240Gb ssd, 2 Tb HDD,32 Gb Ram and am yet to decide on a graphics card.

Cheers BB

My gut is telling me mixing the 'new' (7850) with the 'particularily old' (M2N-E) is likely to lead to compatibility issues.  Be mindful of your Power Supply's capability too.

Go for it if your new system build is soon to follow, and the HD7850 is what you're interested in regardless.  If the new system build is not likely to happen for a while still, I would just save the money and wait. Continue using the X1950 with that system.

32GB ram is overkill, get 16 instead and turn that 7870 into a 7970 with the money saved.
