Hello, I just bought a Avatar PC from Newegg and I plan on upgrading the PSU and GPU sometime in November.  I would like to get a 600 Watt PSU and an AMD 7870 2GB.  I am not sure which one to get and if it will fit or not.  I have a mid tower case but not sure if any of them will fit.  This is the one that I purchased... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883258045 The case type I believe is a "ENERMAX CLIPEUS ECA3212 ATX Mid Tower Case Black" and I think the GPU is this one but not 100% sure... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7874667&CatId=7387 The one I have looks just like that one so I am guessing that is it and it is MSI.  My budget for the PSU is $70 and $200 for GPU if someone can pls help me find those that will fit in my PC.  I also have just one PCIE 16X slot if it matters.  Thanks for the help!  If you do not mind pls link me a PSU and GPU that will fit. Specs of the PC is listed on the link above on Newegg.

Hey sbk,

I checked out the computer you bought--looks pretty nice! I also totally support your decision to get a new PSU. I would get a new PSU even if you weren't upgrading your video card. I can tell from the pictures that that is a "Power Man" or something along those lines, which is a cheap generic power supply that we used at a place I used to work. Not JUNK, but junky.

For $70 you can get a decent PSU. Corsair is a really good brand. Now about the CX series: I've got a CX430 right now that works great with no power issues. However, it has a real annoying whine that, while it doesn't effect operation, just shouldn't be there. This seems to be a common issue on at least some of the CX models.

If you are set on a CX, it looks like you could get a CX600M on Newegg for the same price as a nonmodular one (it's on sale, may as well.) I would, however, recommend taking a look at Corsair's TX series. They also look like they are on sale (looks like you could get a 750W for the same price as the CX600 after rebate, and Corsair is good and fast with rebates). The TX series are generally built better and have a longer warranty (5 years vs 3 years.)

Seasonic, Sparkle, FSP are also really good ones, though they are pricey! I myself just missed a ridiculous deal on a Sparkle that I keep kicking myself for...an 80+ GOLD certified 650W for $60!

As far as the video card goes, maybe someone else can help you out! But read reviews on the PSU!

I would step up to a 750w 80 Plus Gold/Platinum Seasonic or Enermax unit. They are a bit more expensive but you won't have to bother with changing it for at least a couple of decades. I would go to the Enermax forums and ask about if it will fit in the case.

Really should punch myself cause im getting some more money in four days and could have built one much better.  Was going to return this one but they want a 100$ restocking fee so I just decided to upgrade this one.  I guess I will just go ahead and get the ones I listed above and hopefully it works out.  Mainly just play diablo 3 and have tried it on 3 other computers with lots of stutter but this one is so much better.  It only stutters when entering new map for about 5 sec and then it is gone using just my HD to play game. Thanks for the help guys and if you have any more advise please feel free to let me know ).  Thanks!!

Looks good to me. Might want to keep an eye out this holiday season for a 128GB SSD for your games.

Thanks I will def have to get me an SSD.  Not really sure which one would ber good though, you know of any decent ones out there?  I really only play one game so it really doesn't have to be a real large size.  Maybe like 100 gb or less will be fine if they make those sizes or a 50 gb.

Take a look at the OCZ Vector 128GB. I've been using the 256GB Vector since January and am quite happy with it. The Samsung 840 Pro are an option as well.
