Here are the parts that I have installed. I surf the internet and play games. Bioshock series, Stalker series, Witcher series, Guild Wars, Oblivion, Dragon Age series, Crysis series, etc..

What I am thinking is a new AMD build with new single video card, new mother board, new CPU or switch to the dark side and build an i5 system. (Trying to stay AMD as they have never gave me any issues.)

I also could just upgrade my CPU and use my 790FX board but do not know what is out there now where I would see a significant difference in speed with gaming. As you can see I built my system in 2009/2010 and have not kept up with the new AMD stuff so that is why I am asking for advice from fellow members.

I would like to keep this simple so upgrading my CPU and video card would be ideal but my concern would be that my motherboard would be holding me back. I do not know enough about this stuff. Thanks in advance,  Greg

The least I will do is upgrade my monitor to at least a 23" 1920x 1080 wtih hdmi.

What I would do, is first get a Radeon HD 7970, which is fine up to 1920x1200. As for monitors, go with one that uses DisplayPort, like the Dell UltraSharp U2312HM which is on sale now for $180. When you get those, see what your performance is like. Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales are coming up, so you might want to look for a good 128GB SSD to use as your system drive (or a larger one to use for games as well). Then you can overclock that 955, it should be good for 3.8ghz since you have a good aftermarket HSF.

Since you are going up to 1920x1080 you will move closer to the GPU limited resolutions, and performance between K10 and, say, the FX-8350 clock for clock in lightly threaded apps, such as games, isn't stellar.
