I see some decent priced AMD laptops in the USA but in the UK as soon as I type 17" screen I get only Intel or Hi-end (& high price) gaming rigs.

Is AMD planning to sell something like a HP Pavilion 17-e171nr in the UK?

OK I'm not a huge HP fan but thats a great spec/deal for an everyday use laptop. I asked HP UK & they just said we don't sell non-uk market units. Soooo helpful consdering I asked if there was anything similar AMD in the pipeline....

Basically I want a 17"+ laptop that has an A8 or A10 onboard, but it doesn't seem possible in the UK.  Very disappointing.  isgust;

It's not up to AMD where the OEMs sell their units. There's the MSI GX70 3BE041UK for £1,048.97, though it is a very well equipped desktop replacement class laptop. For half that you can get the Acer Aspire V5-552P which only has a 15.6" screen, though it is a touchscreen. It seems Acer has a number of UK models so I would check on their website.

Thanks for the reply.

I know it isn't AMDs 'fault' OEMs want to sell me junk  I was hoping that maybe they had a roadmap for getting this kind of laptop config into different countries.

I like the MSI unit but the $700 HP is way more attractive than £1k+, I'd rather spend that on my tower as that is where I game.

I've had Acer/AMD laptops before & they've been good, but I am not seeing any 17" A8 or A10 yet

Look at the Lenovo G505s, it has an A10-5750M. It does suck the OEMs stick AMD in the "value" segment. Even here in the US finding a 1920x1080 AMD laptop is rare, though the ASUS R510DP-FH11 at $700 isn't bad offering. It's why I'm still using my old MSI GT-735 with it's 1600x900 screen, though I have the MSI W20 3M tablet (AMD Temash) on order.

Lenovo has had good reviews but when I ask wheres a 17.3" display I suddenly find I am pushed towards Intel.

I find the choices available in the US never get a chance here.  The cheap AMD 17" laptop at BestBuy for $400 will never happen here.  That machine would simply double in price in the UK if it were even available.  (I am not particularly excited by Toshibas reputation, but $400 is acceptable for something that is just a basic use machine).

I've seen sites that build to order eg - PCSpecialist  but whilst I can buy an Intel laptop built from barebones I cannot find that for AMD.  I would love to be able to order a laptop with specific features, screen res, multi SATA ports for RAID or SSD & HDD combo, hi-end RAM etc etc.

Hopefully AMD will start making this kind of purchase a possiblity.  There has to be someone who can take this on in the same way as is being done for Intel, but at a sensible price point.  I'd buy from AMD direct if they would do it.

Speaking of cheap laptops, The Packard Bell EasyNote LE69KB for £397 inc VAT that has a 17 inch screen, but only an A4. More are found on AMD's UK where to buy site but the 17 inch with A10s all run over £1000.

Yes, you can see what I mean about $s/value looking at those prices.  Like for like the UK sux big time on price & availabliity.

Maybe I need to take a weekend stateside & pick up a laptop... wouldn't be any more expensive than staying put & buying the equivalent here, only issue is the warranty.

If someone would bring out a mid range Kaveri based laptop I think I'd be happy.

I emailed them & they don't do AMD

Other than that they seem like they have a good business format...
