So I decided to use the AMD Clean Uninstall Utility

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx

What happened was it uninstalled every single device driver in device manager and not just AMD related video card drivers.

This resulted in my computer removing all ATA/IDE/SATA/AHCI devices and my computer required a reboot. Once I rebooted my PC would not get past the Windows 7 boot logo.

The problem is that the AMD Clean Uninstall Utility somehow corrupted my MSAHCI.

I can only boot in IDE mode now and I've done the registry trick to enable AHCI and still can't get my system to boot in AHCI mode.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I did an sfc /scannow and everything turns up alright. The msahci.sys file looks good and is still in c:\windows\system32\drivers

I'm kinda stuck at the moment, I've tried several times to set my bios back to AHCI with no success, it will only boot in IDE mode.

This is a big bummer as the speed difference is huge.

My AS SSD score went from 416 to 157.

The forum is full of warnings about using the AMD uninstall tool.

Perform a system restore to a earlier date before you messed up.

I didn't check the warnings obviously, or I wouldn't have used it.

I figured if AMD put this tool out it would be safe to use and only remove AMD related video drivers.

I didn't think it would go ahead and remove everything.

This is pretty ridiculous.

I don't use system restore to save on resources/performance as SSD drive space is limited. I don't have the possibility to go back and do a restore.

I'd like to fix it by somehow reinstalling the msahci driver.

I personally don't understand why it is still made available...or fixed.

What OS , Processor , Motherboard do you have?

I have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, AMD Phenom II X4 20 CPU, Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P motherboard.

AHCI mode was working just fine when I first installed the SSD and OS.

I enabled it in the registry via:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci\Start

0

I don't know if changing the pciide value to 3 to disable it and leaving msahci on 0 will do the trick, but I think it will lock me out completely if the msahci mode won't work.

I don't know what else to do.

I ran driverquery in the command prompt and it says mshaci is loaded:

msahci       msahci                 Kernel        11/20/2010 3:33:58 AM

The msahci.sys file is loading just fine. However in device mangager I noticed there is no AHCI 1.0 device there anymore and I don't know how to get that back or if that is the issue.

Yeah I tried installing that, it still won't correct the issue.

I had Windows 7 X64 Ultimate working perfectly with AHCI and I ran AS SSD which showed msahci was running 4k aligned and getting the maximum speeds.

However after I ran the AMD Clean Uninstall Utility now I can only boot in IDE mode. The Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller is no longer there obviously.

My windows gets stuck on the boot logo if I try to set my hard disks to AHCI mode in bios. It only boots if I put it back to IDE mode.

By the way that chipset installer is just a trimmed down 14.4 installer which I already ran to fully update to 14.4

That's what it shows when I try to run it. I don't see it saying it wants to install chipset or ahci drivers in any portion of it. I ran it anyway though a bit earlier before I posted here on the forums and it didn't help.

That's just a super old version of the same installer stumped suggested above.

It's just really old 2009 catalyst that won't do anything and the other AHCI drivers are only for when you first install windows and those are outdated as well.

I'm trying to somehow reinstall or reset windows drivers without having to reinstall my whole system.

I mean I went through a drive clone and AHCI switch that was working perfectly to this AMD Clean Uninstall utility wrecking my whole system. Go figure.

If your AS SSD score was 416 you have a major problem to begin with.

Depends on the SSD...  a single 60GB Mushkin Chronos only scores 360ish
