How much difference should I expect? I am switching my laptop system board from my current one with 6370 to one from the same HP dv6 3XXX series with 6550m

I read one advantage to the 6370 is the higher clock speed. 750mhz vs 600mhz. Will this mean fps will be lower?

I did but what is the significance of a higher clock speed compared to the other card stats?

The 6550m will perform better. True the 6370m has a higher core clock speed but the 6550m has more of everything else, higher memory bandwidth, shading units, pixel shaders, mem bus, texture mapping, and memory clock speed.

If you plan on gaming, this card can probably get around 30-50fps on medium settings for some games. This card may be a bit too low in performance though if a lot is going on in game. I recommend a better one if possible.

Thanks very helpful..

With the 6370m so far I've ran games such as Far Cry 1, half life 2, CS:G0, FEAR pretty fluently on low-medium settings at full resolution and vsync on in most cases

Crysis, Hitman Absolution, metro 2033 on low settings at full resolution even run surprisingly well.
