Before using the AMD Catalyst my games would always have terrible FPS even on minimun settings, once set to high performance this fixes the issue for about 10 minutes of playing, then it drops down, usually futher than it was before set to high performance.

I have an AMD Radeon HD 8970M with the latest drivers installed via the AMD Catalyst. Using Windows 7.

If there is any more info you need just ask, has anybody had an issue like this before?

Hate to break it to you.. probably a cooler issue. When the card gets too warm, it underclocks greatly in order to cool down.

Since it's a notebook, heat is a great issue. I've had this issue with my previous notebook, and that's why I went dekstop for gaming.

3 things you can do.. use canned air to clean the ventilation pipes from dust (be sure to hold the fan in place, as the air can break it), set up a custom fan curve with something like MSI Afterburner (can't be done on all laptops) and.. a standalone usb powered cooling pad (relatively inexpensive) with a large fan(s) underneath it.. and heat should no longer be an issue at the expense of portability and noise.
