Alienware notebook will not shutdown/restart like it should. Is there a file I need to install with the lastest drivers, or what?
See issue details below. I have uninstalled Windows 4 times and updated thoroughly before installing drivers. I'm sure it's the video card drivers as explained below. Any and all help to solve this issue is most appreciated.
Please keep in mind, I do not have the technical experience or know the terminology that most possess. I will be happy to answer your questions to the best of my ability. Thank you.
-AMD Mobility Radeon 5870M
AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History
- Current = v14.4, Have tried back to v11.10
- Windows 7 64-bit; with all of the latest updates as of 07/25/14.
After weeks of troubleshooting the issue, it appears that when the drivers for the above mention video card are installed and/or the video card is enabled, the notebook will not shutdown or restart through the Start menu. I have to manually reboot with the power button.
When I uninstall the drivers or disable the card, the PC will shutdown/restart like it should.
