Theoretically the upgrade is possible IF the cpu isn't soldered into the motherboard and the bios even understands the new cpu, getting a laptop cpu is another challenge, they aren't sold retail, can the cooling handle the increased heat output or would you need external cooling and finally, warrany of any kind will be void, should it fail, the laptop is bricked. There are just too many things that can go wrong, so its easier to say NO to this.

I need some help with this issue. to keep it short my cpu ran fine for a month idle about room temp about 23c load was about 45c with a h100i P/P specs r in sig. after a month temps through the roof. was playing a game alt tabbed out. cpu was 60c idle 45c. ive tried two psus ULTRA 550watt, XFX 850watt, two motherboards GIGBYTE 990fx UD3, Asus SABERTOOTH 990fx, removing my extention cables for the 12v CPU n 24pin mobo thinking that was the issue as the problem randomly disapeared. then i started to see if i can get my OC back up. idle 20c package 35c CPU. right back up again. load temps with intel burn and prime were unbearable about 62c!!!! now its beyond thinking ive posted on gigabytes forums, corsairs forums, nothing...i have spent over 200 dollars between motherboards. ONE QUESTION if the cpu is going bad i.e. a core or the whole thing itself, will just overheating be the result. Other thought durning this heat madness, ive benched the cpu with prime95 although temps were high load at stocK 55C RAN FOR 8 HOURS. The common hardware in all these test was that dam H100i, I am leaning towards that because today after i tried to get my oc up again, temps were high i started sqweezing the h100i tubes and gently tapping the RAD temps rocketed sensors showes the package in the 70s b4 i shut it down

I am attempting to upgrade my PC and the last few things i need to replace is Memory(RAM) and my CPU.

I already know what im repalcing my ram with, but i need help with my CPU.

**I would like to note, the only thing that is considered HP on my computer is the OS software and the motherboard, it has a new case and new hardware

So i have a " Foxconn H-ALVORIX_HF-RS880-uATX" motherboard, pretty much stock in an HP pavilion. It uses the regular AM3 Socket, but it seems every CPU with that socket type is discontinued. I was wondering if the AM3+ socket type is compatible with my Motherboard?

***edit: No bcc?

I want to update my PC with a FX 6300 (new mother and new RAM also) and now I have a PSU with a 24 pins connector and a P4 (4 pins) connector.

Could a FX 6300 be used connecting only this P4 to the P8 motherboard power ? (that is: feeding only 4 pins in the 8 pin CPU power connector).

Hey, I'm wondering if it would be a good idea, and possible, to upgrade from my current AMD A10-5700 APU to the AMD A10-5800K APU. I'm also most likely going to upgrade my RAM, video card, and PSU. The main thing I want is a) to know if the A10-5800K would bottleneck an ATI Radeon HD 7850, b) if it is possible since both processors share the same socket (FM2), and c) if the AM A10-5800K is a good budget CPU.

The main thing I want is the ability to overclock the Processor when needed. There isn't much of a difference between the two processors from comparisons that I've seen, except two key points: 1) the 5700 being more energy efficient and 2) the ability to overclock the 5800K.

Also, I bought my computer premade. It's a Gateway, and I'm never sure if it's good to upgrade a premade, store bought computer. My other Gateway has been acting very slow on start-up since I upgraded it's video card and PSU from an ATI Radeon 4650 HD/400W PSU to an nVidia GTX 550Ti/650W PSU.

So please, thoughts, suggestions, etc. I'm open to ideas. Just looking for some input.

Thank you.

So here I am, trying to do some work in Blender and Maya and trying to tune a system and (attempt to) write some code(FreeBSD mostly). And the rendering and compiling takes ages. I need more cpu power.

I get issues with running a system more than a few days. People on other forums(tweakers.net & hardware.info) told me to use Opteron or Xeon as this will solve some of the issues I am having, and I know these come in dual socket. Not needed I guess, but if I could, I'd be really happy...

Now the problem is this is not making me any money for now since I suck too much at this to give up my dayjob, so I'd like to not spend a boatload of cash. So I browsed a bit and came to the conclusion Intel is costly, and then I saw this: http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/295821/amd-opteron-4226-boxed.html 12 cores in a single system, now that is looking quite tempting.

Then I turned my attention to the motherboards. G34 is through the damn roof, that is a no-go. So C32 it is. This would be an excellent platform for the more enthusiast homeuser, but it has a rather outdated chipset. As in its 2008/2009 parts outdated, and this is not too tempting on a desktop. Which is too bad or it would be on order already. The alternative would be socket 2011's(yes the competition) Intel Xeon E5-1650. But that one cpu is more than 2x Opteron 4226 and a C32 board combined, at least where I live. The AMD SR5670 still is the latest chipset for G34 and C32 right? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Now I know most news reported Steamroller is still on for 2013, so I thought what if I wait it out a bit and see. Depending upon who you believe, there could be a new socket in it. And a new socket may mean a new modern chipset.

But is Steamroller in 2013 only coming for the Opteron as some reports said, or is it only coming for APU's as other sites reported? Or both? And is there really a new socket in it for Steamroller? Or is that only for Excavator? Is there a new Opteronsocket or chipset on its way? Will all Opterons switch to a single socket if that is the case and ditch C32 and G34? I know that a single socket for APU and FX is the goal this next generation or the one after that, at least for the desktop.

Is there ever anyone from AMD on this forum that could at least drop a hint on when the new socket/chipset is here for Opteron?

If anyone here has any suggestions on how to cram more horsepower into a case, I am all ears.

Props to AMD on keeping the sockets so you do not need to change entire systems, but it seems there can be downsides afterall.

Issue: Display Cuts out and no signal after about 10min of installing the processor drivers and will not come back on in windows.

More background: I just recently recieved a new A8-5600k to replace my A4-5300. I installed it as normal and reinstalled windows becuase windows didnt like the change. Upon second reboot after installing catalyst, the display cut out during the window boot screen. I reinstalled windows 3 more times but the issue still occurs, or it now cuts out after about 10 min of use and will not come back on booting into windows after that. It works in safe mode however. I have tried installing catalyst and the Processor drivers, but have had no luck, andy ideas? Do i have a fualty unit?

Processor: A8-5600k

MB: MSI A75MA-E35

Ram: G-Skill 2x4gb 1866 Ares

Monitor: Random HP monitor or my Samsung Tv

OS: WIndows 7 professional

It is ot be noted that i had no issues over the two weeks of having the A4 processor in the computer, its just when i switched that i developed issues. I have also tried deleting the display drivers of the gpu in safe mode and windows will boot but once the drivers reinstall the video output fails after 10min

And I want to upgrade the processor to an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-68 (Socket S1). In theory this is possible, but I can't find a recent BIOS that's supports this CPU model. I've contacted the Asus support, but they have directed me to AMD. What can I do? I've already replaced the old CPU, but if I start the system I get the message: "Unknown Processor Revision" and "The processor(s) installed in your system are of an unknown revision"

Mind you that I already have upgraded the BIOS to recent version that I've found on the Asus website (http://www.asus.com/supportonly/Z83M/#support_Download) or http://www.asus.com/supportonly/A7M/#support_Download

I am currently testing a HP DL575 with four Opteron 6272 processors under Windows R2 Enterprise with 128GB RAM (latest service packs etc).

This server is/was due to replace an older Intel based Xeon machine (single socket, six core) however I have found the performance on the AMD server extremely sluggish. Initially I was testing Matlab alone (simple jobs taking DOUBLE the time to run) so after some research suspected the Intel Math Kernel Library issue. However I put together some other tests using simple scripting (looping a million times with some simple math which doesn't use MKL at all) and i was shocked to see the AMD machine taking almost double the time to execute the same code - compared to the older Intel boxes??

I've run a bunch of benchmarking tools, the only item that sticks out is RAM write speed and RAM latency, which on the AMD box is reported as very slow (latency is about double, write speed is about half, of the other boxes). I've tried swapping out RAM from HP which didn't make any difference. Perhaps the architecture of a quad-socket machine is just different, greater overhead? I have confirmed the RAM setup is as per spec required for maximum performance (with HP).

Any suggestions on what to try? I have tried every BIOS option with no success. Perhaps there is something obvious I am missing?

Thx.

**newbie warning**

I've purchased a new pc 3 months ago. It's has an Fx-4100 CPU (with stock fan) running on an ASUS m5a78l-mlx v2 mobo with 500 w psu.
Recently I've had some temp issues, I felt i could literally fry eggs on the top of my case under full load, but i didnt cared so much since everything worked fine. (first mistake)

I used the pc mainly for some photo and video edit stuff (Adobe CS6), rendering 1080hd etc...it just worked well. (even i had it on sometimes overnight when compiling a one-hour dvd project)

But today during rendering a h264 fullhd project the pc shut downed after 10 minutes. Next time i checked it with core temp and hwmonitor, and here are the results:
-At idle i have 25-35 degrees (C&deg. When browsing, wathcing youtube, downloading its 40-55 degrees. Watching HD movies it's 55-60 degrees, and the top of the case starts frying my scrumbed eggs (or whatever)

-when i just work in Adobe Premiere it's 60-65 degrees. but here comes the rendering: first it starts at 65-70 degrees, then in every second or two it raises one degrees till the max...

So I dont know whats the case. i've checked my bios (ami 0902), i have auto settings (i dont know what will be the most suitable) everywhere...but i dont really think its normal, even APPro CS6 is a CPU heavy app, a month ago i could do an overnight render...(and back in the old times i could do all the same with a core2duo without these issues).

Thank you all guys. Even i attached a screenshot.

I would really appreciate your help, I'll probably go back to my retailer though i still have all the warranties, but i dont really want to look stupid when talking with them....

My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-A75N-USB3 with F2 bios that support A8-3870K. The CPU working with no problem with external VGA. I connect native DVI cable to my monitor. I make bios reset. Im loosing my faith... I dont want to send cpu to RMA... ;/

Windows7 x64 dont see any Radeon HD6550D to install

Ram is 4GB 1333 ECC, or other 2x1GB 1333 Samsung OEM. All working fine with external crappy 8600GT

Any clues?

Thanks!

AMD FX Processors and Mass Effect: Black Textures on Noveria and Ilos.

I've not seen any topics on this board about the issue, but Mass Effect has had 2 of it's largest gameplay/story chunks sullied once your processor has been upgraded to the FX series.

Anyway, to the problem: Once you reach the garage of Peak 15 on Noveria, character graphics, enemy graphics and some etc props turn in to black boxes, almost entirely devoid of any shape, what-so-ever. This persists until about the half-way point of Peak 15. And again, it happens on the last main mission in Ilos, as soon as the Mako lands -- the same thing.

Is there any planned fix for this? There are work arounds, in which you disable the lighting through the command box, but a solid fix would be nice, especially for the people like me. This is my favorite game. I have a link below that backs up my claims, for anyone's reference.

For the sake of the topic, my processor is an FX 8120.

Earlier in the year I built myself a new HTPC using an AMD A4 5300 FM2 CPU.

Very happy overall with the performance of the CPU and the graphics capabilities.

A couple of weeks ago I brought a new TV a Samsung F8000 series. All my peripheral devices are plugged into an AV Receiver and that in turn plugs into the TV. In terms of the devices I have my HTPC, a seperate 3D bluRay player and my Xbox 360.

If I watch a BluRay or DVD through the Bluray player it works perfectly. THe picture is stunning.

If I play a DVD or BluRay via the HTPC it looks so unbelievably rubbish its laughable. It ghosts and smears so bad in dark scenes it looks ridiculous. I've ensured Motion Plus is disabled on the TV. for playing DVDs I use Windows Media Center. For BluRays I use TotalMedia Theatre 5.

I've tried playing around with the settings on the TV but they all seem fine. So I've gone into the Catalyst drivers and had a play with some of the flat panel settings in there but I'm not sure what I need to change to fix it.

Can someone please show me the way?

Many thanks

Hello.

I wanted to try and overclock my 965BE, but when I tried to stresstest it at normal speed (3,4ghz), the temperature got up to 70 degrees, so overclocking seems out of the question. I have this cooler on it: http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=378

Does anyone know why it gets so hot? Is it normal with that big cooler? Thanks in advance! :-)
