Re-Enable Turbo Core On AMD A8-4500M?

I am a complete dumb ***, so I decided, "Why not f**k up my brand new laptop i just got for christmas by trying to overclock it!" It is a Gateway NV52L15u with a quad core AMD A8-4500M processor. There are obviously no settings in the BIOS to do this, so i installed AMD Overdrive. When i tried to change the clock multiplier, it said to disable Turbo Core. I did, and it still didn't let me increase the clock multiplier to more than the normal 19 (it has a base frequency of 100 MHz. The normal clock speed is 1.9 GHz with up to 2.8 GHz with turbo core.) So then, being dumber than ever, under clocked it to 1.4 GHz. After that it really messed up and i used the button to restart it. When it booted back up (which i had to restart it 4 times to do) it was going back and forth between 1.4 GHz and 1.9 GHZ. I somehow managed to get it to stay at 1.9 GHz, but that is where it stays. Turbo Core isn't working, and I can't re-enable it in AMD Overdrive (that area is greyed out.) Is there ANY ANY ANY way i can re-enable turbo core? I will hate myself for all eternity if i can't fix this.

I have an AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ CPU that has recently developed an overheating issue. Because of this, the CPU gets too hot after about 5-10 minutes and the PC powers off.

While I wait for a replacement heatsink I installed the AMD overdrive, figuring I could lower the CPU clock speed to lower the heat generated by the CPU. All I did was lower the slider a bit on the screen that shows all of the cores (all eight of them).

My son when into a game called Dungeon Defenders and it was like he was speedhacking. His character was running around the speed super fast. I found this odd when all I did was lower the clock speeds...

Any ideas why it would be doig this?

Overclocking energy-saving or idle mode in HD-Series

Dear Community,

I have had several well-known issues with my HD 5770,

-> Freezing, Blackscreen, Recovering (The driver has been restored..)

-> Sometimes (60% of the time) bluescreen (0x00000116 with atikmpag.sys)

Most of the issues are gone due to

-> Disabling Adobe´s Hardware Acceleration

-> Creating TdrDelay (set 8) in regedit

That is what the research in thousands of forums and windows-support has lead to.

To sum it up: The problems are gone for the biggest part, I have no more issues while using the computer, neither in-game nor browsing the internet nor using other programs

Thing is, if left idle (from, I don´t know, 10 minutes +), i would come back and see another blue-screen, also the 0x00000116

My conclusion is, the tool Microsoft started using since Vista to detect latency-issues with the GPU (TDR) is satisfied, now that the delay-tolerance is set up to 8 (Hexa-Decimal, i am an amateur and can only guess that it means the toleration-time the TDR uses in seconds).

I assume when left idle, the card switches to either idle- or energy-saving mode, where in both cases the clocking is reduced, I guess this causes even higher delay then the set 8-hexa-seconds, so i searched a little and found that the card has 4 modes (written in the bios)

"Clock State 0
Core Clk: 625.00 MHz
Memory Clk: 993.00 MHz
Voltage: VID1
Flags: Boot
Clock State 1
Core Clk: 500.00 MHz
Memory Clk: 750.00 MHz
Voltage: 1.046 V
Flags:
Clock State 2
Core Clk: 625.00 MHz
Memory Clk: 993.00 MHz
Voltage: VID1
Flags:
Clock State 3
Core Clk: 500.00 MHz
Memory Clk: 993.00 MHz
Voltage: 1.084 V"

(taken from http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=267497)

So clearly, i want to either disable the idle / energy-saving mode OR set the clock in these areas higher. MSI afterburner would be a brilliant tool, but it only offers to change the temporary settings.
I am a bit afraid of flashing the BIOS with Radeon Bios Editor (RBE), but it is definenitely manageable if there is no ther way out. The only thing I would need to know in that case would be the definitions for clock-states 0-3

Another solution would be to disable the RBE tool in the registry, but I might cause serious damage without knowledge.

Feel free to suggest solutions / optimal idle/saving clockings you would count with or to contact me personally at broetchenbaecker94@web.de

Operating system is Windows 7 (32-Bit)

Thanks in advance

Sorry about my bad english. I'm not really sure if this is the right place to post this. I have a Sapphire Radeon 7870 HD and sometimes while playing certain games (usually in menus) or loading them, the graphics card starts making a high pitch noise. This is happening because the graphics card is working with really high FPS (1000+). However, in other games it does not sound at all. What I would like is to know how to set a maximum fps (like 60) so the graphics card don't go crazy at those times. I have tried EVGA Precision X but the option is disabled. Also, the VSync option of the AMD Catalyst doesn't seem to set the fps to 60 either. Any suggestions? Thank you.

A number of years ago I build the folks an XP machine using what I can salvage from their recently dead previous desktop, and pulling whatever I can't from my collection of spare parts. Recently I notice that tell-tale buzzy, rattly, whiney noise coming from it's heatsink which often preceeds the death of a fan.

I figure I should go for an ounce of prevention and all that, and I know I'll be the one fixing it if it dies completely anyway. However, I didn't plan on making this into a mini-project log until I saw the state of its interior...

The machine is an old Shuttle XPC. The heatsink fan its self was the worst of the lot...

The tools of the job are now at hand...

Some canned air for killing dust bunnies, a tiny tube of graphite powder, and some new goo for the fan bearing. A little lube makes everything easier.... Yeah, I went there...

Usually you can just pull the fan blades right off, although with smaller fans some care must be taken not to snap off any fan blades while removing the housing.

Normally there will be old goo around the spindle and around the bearing, but this fan is so sad and dirty that all of the old goo has dried up and gone away. Time for some new goo...

A little more goo than is strictly necessary... but that's not going to hurt. I often just smear it on the spindle and let the spinning of the fan blades distribute it around where it needs to go. Adding the graphite powder isn't strictly necessary either, it just helps keep everything spinning smoothly.

I always forget which direction I should place the fan in order for the proper airflow, so I always have to spend a few minutes looking for these little arrows once all is said and done.

I can actually see through the fins of the heatsink again. Let's rewind to the beginning for the dramatic before-and-after...

And we end up with a much happier PC.

This issue is driving me nuts. For some reason, on my recently purchased 7870 xt, It WILL NOT OC. I've tried CCC overdrive, Trixx, and MSI afterburner with the same result. As soon as I touch the Core clock or Memory clock in the SMALLEST increment, the core clock will not throttle up from it's idle of 501MHz. I've recreated this problem in 3Dmark, and logged it using GPU-Z. I was trying to discover why I was having such bad FPS in games on a fancy new card, and realized when I reset the OC to default my fps shot up, so I started doing some testing, and have come to this result. I've tried with both 13.1 and the 13.2 driver, and other then throttling up to what I have it OC'd at for a SPLIT second, while loading a test ( not during load ) it just sits at 501. It has no problem running at 975 during load while all settings are default, but as soon as I try to raise even 25MHz on ANY setting, it won't increase from idle. I've consulted with several people on forums, eg. Hardware Heaven, and they've all told me the only thing I can do is contact AMD.

For a first time AMD card buyer, this SUCKS.

As this is my first post, Hi there to all you AMD users!

Now to the matter at hand...I want to create a 2 state load profile for my cpu(FX-8350), much like it comes with stock(4Ghz@1.3375v normal core and 4,2Ghz@1.4125v turbo core).

My mainboard bios doesn't help me in this(i have a Gigabyte GA990FXA-UD3 rev 1.1) as i cannot set a specific voltage for cpu turbo core only, along with another (lower)normal cpu core voltage.

Can AMD OverDrive do that?I can only adjust there from 1.4125v to 1.4275v, which is not nearly as much as i would want to range over.

Hello!

I've already overclocked my graphics card, and now I want to overclock my processor (AMD Athlon X2 240)

I've seen some tutorials of it, but it depends of the motherboard to get a good overclock, and I don't want to try something that's not my case, haha...

So, I've never overclocked a processor and I really need tips, where to start, etc.

System Info:

Motherboard: AMD Foxconn A6VMX
CPU: AMD Athlon x2 240 2.80 GHz
RAM: 2GB
OS: Windows 8 Pro x64

EDIT:

I changed something in bios from 200 to 205, and I see the difference in CPUZ, it's the bus speed

My A6-5400K currently runs at 4.4 Ghz at 1.65 voltage at around 30 degrees Celsius. I was wondering how much further I can overclock it or how I can change my voltage so it doesn't crash on me.

Right now, at thos current settings, if I try to overclock past 4.4 Ghz, my computer crashes because the integrated graphics can't handle it.

What is recommended to be done here?

I have tried with 2 different driver packages, results are the same. I didnt have any problems with vista and I understand Win8 is still a bit unstable, but I think this might be driver problem. Any suggestions?

The picture below is my current setup, I'm curious as to if anyone else pipes cold air to their PC. got my FX 8120 stock 3.1 up to 4.5 stable. CPU's reading at 43C and that's after an hour of WOW maxed out on eyefinity. Extreamly efficient system, but I'm slightly nervous about all the talk of condensation. I'm pretty sure that it only forms when cold air warms up to the dew point. Is this correct? If it is, would putting a dehumidifier inline drop the dew point, or even if there was just one in the room? Anyways let me know what you think.

The 5570 covers most my current gaming needs but anything extra I could do at limited expense would greatly benefit me. The FireGL card doesn't have a HDMI output so I was hoping I could bridge the two and continue to use my current monitor.

Ok, I have a little extra money this month, and I'm anticipating a decent tax refund again, soI'm going to go ahead and update the core of my system, ie. CPU and MoBo. A friend of mine already gaeve me 16GB of DDR3 Ram, not the fastest stuff, but it'll hold me over a few months.

I've decided to go with the best, the FX-8350, so anyway, my big hangup is the Mobo.

CPU: AMD FX-8350 Vishera

Mobo: ???????

Ram: 4x4GB Corsair XMS3 1333MHz, 9-9-9-24 1.5V

GPU: MSI N570GTX OC Twin Frozr II

PSU: ThermalTalke Tough Power 750W

Audio: HT|Omega Striker 7.1 Sound

Cooler: Antec Kuhler 920

I'm going to try and pick up this tomorrow afternoon, so I know this is a short notice request for recomendations, but that's about the only time I can run over to Microcenter for the buy.

They have a Combo offer on an AMD FX-8350 BE and an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX.

Over the years I'v gotten picky on motherboards, I'll admit, I can be difficult, my old friends can attest.

No ASRock or MSI suggestions. Had a bad falling out with ASRock, and I don't trust MSI. I loved Gigabyte in the past, butI'd like to have a board with a UEFI BiOS, because it's new and shiney, no other real reason/ I want cool running, and a decent warranty (this is where I get leary on ASUS). Total package I'd like under $300, but seeing as I'm about (pending a truck with stock on it) to get the Sabertooth bumdle tomorrow, I'll go as high as $320 as the price to beat.

Again, sorry for the short notice request, but again, if that truck is empty tomorrow, I'll have more time

Thanks!

Difference between 68W and 95W TDP Gen1 Dual-Core Opteron 285?

I'm currently using two of the retail-grade 95W TDP Opteron 285's in this set-up. My current dilemma is temperatures. I have two Zalman CNP5X heatsinks on these CPUs, but they barely do the job, as you can see, to keep these yesteryear CPUs cool, or at least, as cool as I'd like them to be (high 20C to very low 30C range.)

While looking around, I came across model number OST285FAA6CB on CPU-World for a 68W TDP 285, and further research shows that it's an OEM part for an old generation of the HP DL385 line of servers. Also according to CPU-World, and other sources that I can find, I can't find any difference between the 95W and 68W versions besides the TDP... which I find very peculiar seeing as they're both 90nm CPUs that seem to otherwise be identical besides power consumption. I can get a pair of the 68W 285's for relatively cheap on some websites, and this would be ideal if this actually means I'll be using less power and my temperatures will go down to the range I'd like them to be while idle.

My question is, what's the difference that makes the 68W Opteron use less power than the 95W Opteron, if they are both of the same 90nm SOI process type and both perform the same on paper? is it a matter of stepping? were they hand-picked and marked based on power usage for deployment in HP servers? Were miniscule improvements made to the cores that decreased power consumption and just weren't documented? and although they're the same, as said, on paper, will I theoretically see any slight improvement in performance?

Thank you very much in advance.

I've tried three kits of RAM, different brands, two 1866 and one 2133.

The first kit had errors and I RMA'd it but memtest86+ passed the others with flying colores. Neither of them will run cleanly above their default. For the 4GB Ballistix 1866, that's 1333. (!) For the 8GB Ripsaws it's 1600.

Right now I've got the Ripsaws @1866 w/relaxed timings and my video is still dropping out for 2-3 seconds at a time, once every ten minutes or so, on average.

I really want to run fast ram with the iGPU. Otherwise I've wasted my time and money locking myself into this cpu socket. This isn't what I payed for.

If I run the 2133 @2133, the blink gets much more frequent. It never happens in BIOS regardless of setting, and I haven't seen it happen running at the RAMs default speed. Yet.

Also AMD Overdrive didn't do a darn thing but cause a BSOD. Otherwise zip. Nada. Zilch.

Could the memery controller be bad? It's too late to return the A10 to the retailer, so what can I do if it is? How do I know it's not the mobo? (RAM tests the same in all slots, BTW.)

My hardware all supports CPU and RAM overclocking:

A10-5800k (supports 1866mhz!?)

ASRock FM2A85X Exreme 6 (supports 2400mhz)

Ballistix 4GB@1866/Ripsaws 8GB@2133

Corsair cx750 watt PS

I am a bit of a beginner when I face choosing a case for a new PC. In the past I have always either salvaged some old case or bought a cheap one and added some fans thinking, that what matters is on the inside. So my question would be, which are quality pc case manufacturers? The plastic on some of them looks like if I accidentally give them a nudge, they shatter. Always liked Lian Li's snailshell case, but paying 216 euros retail (price in local electronics shops) seems a bit steep.

It put faster CPUs, but the main boards are left on default settings.

After I touch the jumpers and do faster FSB frequency, the PCs work perfectly.

I can read and understand various main boards’ manuals perfectly.

But today one CPU got broken because unsuccessful over clocking procedure.

Now, in my hands I have another board, what offer different types of over clocking actions, like CPU voltage, FSB frequency, CPU frequency multiplier…

Again it’s some Chinese cheep board with instructions on it how to use the jumpers. And again I have potential to damage some another AMD CPU.

I have the sense that the CPU is under clocked, how I can understand the best CPU’s settings in the MB, without me to over clock it? What program I have to run, what to show me not the current CPU speed, but my target CPU speed? I’ll like to have not under clocked CPU and to be not so over clocked so to burn out and this CPU.

Once again. You say me, I run the program, it say me the target CPU settings. I already know how to apply them in the main board. I don’t know the target speed.

Couple of things. One, you're in the wrong forum, the 9600 series is legacy by far and needs to be in the Extended Support section. And two, the updates for that card ceased lonnnnnng ago, go back to an 8 series driver, possibly even a 7 series, and leave it alone, it's an antique.

AOD seems to have a problem on startup in Windows 8 - the OS starts without the start-up sound, and the AOD profile isn't loaded (default cpu clocks). If I then restart Windows, it boots correctly with the startup sound and the OC profile is loaded correctly. This is somewhat annoying as it means restarting my pc every time I start it. Apart from this, AOD works as well as it always did in Win7.
